The
different municipalities and the capital city, Tagbilaran
will have a chance to find a funding institution for their
respective poverty reduction initiatives during the scheduled
Bohol Poverty Fair 2007 on October 16 and 17 at the Bohol
Cultural Center.
It
would be the second annual poverty fair that would give the
different local government units a venue to display their
project proposals for possible funding by foreign and local
funding institutions.

Governor
Erico B. Aumentado, through the Provincial Planning
and Development Office or PPDO, started this kind of
activity last year to provide municipal LGUs with a
concrete opportunity to access and leverage Official
Development Assistance (ODA0, national government, and
the provincial government itself, as well as other sources
of external funds for their proposed poverty reduction
projects that respond to extreme levels of deprivation.
According
to Roger Alegado of the PPDO, the over-all action officer
for the event, they invited about 250 prospective donors
which include foreign and local- -including national
government agencies.
|
He
said PPDO had set the ceiling for each project's cost at P3
million and that projects previously offered had been refined
and will be offered again this time together with new proposals.
Ma.
Trinidad Caseñas, contact person for the activity's
publicity, explained that the different municipalities will
put up booths at the cultural center where they will display
information materials about their respective proposed poverty
reduction initiatives which the donors or interested funding
agencies can examine and assess.
On
the first day, the funding agencies will visit the booths
of the different LGUs and read the project proposals displayed.
Then
on the second day, they will sit down with the local chief
executives or the municipal planning coordinators to discuss
the potentials of their proposals and how to refine the others
to qualify for funding, Caseñas explained. (Angeline
