Ed, reporter convicted of
libel charge
Case filed by Gov. Aumentado

A reporter who in his heydays was branded by his former employer as a "fire eating writer" found himself at the receiving end of a libel conviction after a regional trial court found him guilty of the crime charged.

His managing editor was also meted the same guilty verdict.

But the unkindest cut of it all was that Ven Arigo and Reynaldo "Reigh" Monreal were found guilty of libel without having to reckon with the newspaper they have been serving as reporter and managing editor, respectively. They used to work in the Visayan tabloid Ang Balita Sano. The paper had since folded up and the two staffers had to fend off the libel rap all by themselves.

Chatto lauds vermi-growers
in Panglao isle

Through representatives, first district Representative Edgar Chatto sent a message of support to Panglao Island Vermi-Growers Association (PIVGA) on their recent launching on September 7 at San Isidro Barangay Hall, Dauis.

LIFE Philippines Foundation Incorporated-Bohol Chapter launched PIVGA as part of their Solid Waste Management Program for Barangays Dao, San Isidro and Biking in the municipality of Dauis.

Mr. Daniel Moore, chief of the Office of Energy and Environment of USAID graced the event, together with LIFE Foundation BOT Chair Msgr. Cirilo Darunday and LIFE-Board of Directors.

Inabanga Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy visits islands too - to fulfill a responsibility.

Hope springs eternal

It was not the happy ending that Erap Estrada the movie star would have wanted. Barely three years after making history for scoring the biggest winning margin for a Presidential election, he was not only unseated but behind bars.

Last Wednesday, he made the dubious distinction of becoming the first former president to be convicted of plunder, or of any crime for that matter. And although he still has legal options left, the stage has been set for the disgraceful end.
