GANG
WAR TOOK TOLL ON two teenagers over the week.
One
of the victims, 18-year-old resident of Torero Private Road,
Tagbilaran City, Edcel Rey Nadela, sustained 50 stab wounds
on the night of April 6, believed to be a member of Crips
gang.
Police
investigation had it that Nadela was caught in between the
rivalry of two gangs- -the Bloods and the Crips.
Two
suspects in Nadela's killing were arrested a day after in
Talibon.
Witnesses
said they saw Nadela and the two suspects having a drinking
session on the night of April 6. Like the victim, the suspects
are also 18 years old.
Barangay
tanods of Taloto conducted a manhunt operation for the suspects
after learning that one of them (suspects) called up his parents
to inform that he had killed and dumped the victim on the
shores of Taloto.
Another
member of Crips was shot in sitio Baliaut, Barangay Poblacion,
Baclayon on the dawn of April 12.

The
20-year-old victim was identified as Leonardo Salac
Jr, a student of Central Visayas State College of Agriculture
Forestry and Technology (CVSCAFT) Tagbilaran City campus.
According
to Salac's brother, around 1 a.m. yesterday he was talking
with the victim while heading towards the second story
of their house to sleep when they suddenly heard a motorcycle
stopping right in front of their house. Then they heard
a voice shouting, daring his brother to a fight.
The
suspect allegedly shouted,"Jun! Kanaug dire [kung]
isog ka! (Jun! Come down here if you are really brave!,"
according to the victim's brother.

It
was then that the victim peeped at the window only to meet
the burst of bullets from three gunshots.
The
suspect was identified as Oman Ubas, a resident of barangay
San Roque, also of Baclayon.
Until
the present, police have no idea what type of firearm was
used during the shooting incident.
Manhunt
for the suspect is still on, as he had fled right away after
the incident on board his motorcycle.
The
victim was rushed to Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial
Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
According
to witnesses, the victim was seen having a drinking session
with classmates at the seawall area in front of the town's
church on Friday.
Bloods
and Crips had been hostile eversince. In fact, the chief of
police in Baclayon and Vice-Mayor Marilyn Uy already summoned
the two groups in February to settle their rifts.
In
fact, members of the two groups signed a covenant on this.
Meanwhile,
the Tagbilaran police scored hard against suspected lawbreakers
when they arrested two youths for possession of illegal drugs
and two more on suspicion of involvement in criminal activities.
Elements
of the Tagbilaran PNP station collared the two youths inside
an abandoned house in Purol 4, Dao district about 9 pm last
April 8.
The
two were identified as Leo Ararao, 26, single and one Louie
Danisan, 18, both residents of Barangay Danao, Panglao town.
Initial
investigation revealed that the Tagbilaran PNP received reports
from concerned residents about suspicious characters inside
an abandoned house in the said place.
Responding
policemen who rushed to the scene after receiving the tip
chanced upon the two with Ararao in the act of throwing six
packets of suspected shabu, another pack containing suspected
shabu residue and shabu paraphernalia.
Ararao
is now facing charges of violating Republic Act 9165 while
Danisan was temporarily freed since there is no proof of his
involvement. He claimed that he merely delivered food to Ararao
who is his cousin.
A
day earlier, two youths were nabbed on suspicion that they
were involved in a hold-up along Ma. Clara street .

Silvan Palacio, Tagbilaran PNP crime investigator, said a
minor suspect yielded a .45 caliber pistol. His companion
identified as Ian de la Cruz, 18.
Both
gave their address as Capitol Site, Cogon, Tagbilaran.
Palacio
said the two are members of the Crips gang, one of the notorious
juvenile gangs in the city.
He
revealed that a case has been filed against de la Cruz while
the minor has been placed under the custody of the Department
of Social Welfare and Development.
Elements
of the Tagbilaran PNP arrested the two at the Capitol Site
area while responding to an alarm from siblings Cresvie and
Vilma Caresosa, natives of Dagohoy town.
The
two were divested of P3,000 and a Nokia 1600 cellular phone.
One
of the victims even sustained injuries in the face after one
of the suspects slammed a pistol on her when she tried to
resist.
