Vice
Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera says the rice shortage that the
country is experiencing now should be an eye opener that should
be the basis of future development plans.
Herrera,
who chairs the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) committee on
agriculture, says that the difficulties being experienced
at present should convince development planners to give more
emphasis on agriculture that what they are giving at present.
"This
is a painful lesson but we should not waste it by not doing
anything about it," the vice governor remarked.
He
stressed that agricultural production should be made a priority
in Bohol despite the gains made tourism.

"There
is no conflict because most of the areas tapped for
tourism are not feasible for agricultural production,"
he noted.
The
vice-governor said that he is more concerned about the
idle and arable lands that have not been put to good
use.< | |
