Mayor Dan Lim yesterday called on all Boholanos and even non-Boholanos
to rally behind the Chocolate Hills in its bid to make it
to the seven new wonders of the world.
"It
is time we rally behind the Chocolate Hills and give it the
salute that it deserves," Lim declared.
The
mayor issued the call to campaign for on-line votes for Bohol
's world-acclaimed haycock hills which is bidding to make
it on the elite list among the world's top seven natural wonders.
As
of the last update on Saturday, April 19, the Chocolate Hills
was in seventh place behind Ha Long Bay of Vietnam, Cox Bazar,
Bangladesh ; Ganges River , Bangladesh ; Amazon River which
spans the South American countries of Bolivia , Brazil , Colombia
, Ecuador , Peru and Venezuela ; Mt. Everest , Nepal ; and
Cocos Island , Costa Rica .
Japan
's Mt. Fuji is in eight spot, just ahead of another Philippine
entry, the Tubbataha Reef.
Lim
was appointed by Gov. Erico Aumentado to spearhead the Chocolate
Hills campaign in the United States .
"I
see no reason why the Chocolate Hills will not make it to
the top seven," Lim confidently declared.
He
pointed out that while the other entries were bays, rivers,
mountains, volcanoes and diving spot, the Chocolate Hills
is "one of a kind".
"It
is all alone because there is no other entry that resembles
it," Lim pointed out.
The new 7 wonders of the world campaign was organized by the
New7Wonders Foundation.
Making
it to the elite list last year were Chichen Itza of Mexico,
Christ Redeemer, Brazil; Colosseum, Italy; Taj Mahal, India;
Great Wall of China, Petra, Jordan; and Macchu Picchu, Peru.
According
to the new7wonders.com, the official website of the organizing
committee, some 200 nominations have been submitted by half
a million people.
New7Wonders
Founder and President Bernard Weber pointed out the difference
between this year's search and the previous one which is from
man-made structures to "treasures of nature"..
"We
are finding the New7Wonders of Nature campaign to be excitingly
different from the first one. So many breathtakingly beautiful,
natural places are still quite unknown to many. From waterfalls
to fjords, rainforests to mountain peaks, freshwater lakes
to salt flats, we are discovering together the incredible
beauty and variety of our planet."
To
vote on-line, internet users can visit new7wonders.com and
vote for their respective preferences.
The
voting will continue until Dec. 31 this year.
Lim
said voting for the Chocolate Hills is the least that Boholanos
can do to express their gratitude to God for choosing Bohol
as the site for the rare 1,268 mounds that continue to fascinate
visitors.
