Cockpit owners get 72-hour TRO
COCKPIT OPERATORS AND or owners who called themselves Bohol Cockpit Operators Association won a temporary relief yesterday from their present predicament where they are barred from holding cockfights other than Sundays and legal holidays.

This developed after the Regional Trial Court Branch 49 through Presiding Judge Fernando Fuentes III issued an ex parte temporary restraining order (TRO) stopping the provincial director of the Philippine National Police from implementing the provision of the Cockfighting Law of the Phils. prohibiting the holding of cockfights other than Sundays and legal holidays.

Guv draws solution to
GSIS pensioners' woes

THE LONG QUEUES AND OTHER woes of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) pensioners in Bohol will soon be part of history.

This after GSIS General Manager Winston Garcia agreed to the solution offered by Gov. Erico Aumentado.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo endorsed to Garcia the Aumentado solution over lunch in Malacañang that lasted two-and-a-half hours.

Girl raped, killed in
Loboc; suspect held

THE YEAR WAS BARELY TWO days old when a family lost their teen-age girl who raped and killed her while under the influence of liquor.

The 14-year-old girl was a third year high school student and a resident of Barangay Quinoguitan, Loboc town.

Insp. Antonio Gujilde, Loboc PNP chief, identified the suspect as a certain Joel Meligorio, 22, a native of Camayaan, Butuan City but residing in Quinoguitan at the time of the crime.

A matter of faith

 

THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE YEAR 2008 that makes it very exciting.

That may just be the word to describe a year when a lot of events are expected to unfold. In a nation weary of bad

news and ill tidings, that should be more than enough reason for hope.

One reason for hope is that 2008 may yet turn out to be a year when justice finally takes its course. Notwithstanding the prevailing cynicism and skepticism, it seems that the long awaited moment for the wheels of justice to turn has come.
