SINCE
it is still the hottest "talk show" in this side
of town, we can't help but join in the cacophony of voices
vying for attention. It may be a voice in the wilderness but
just the same, raising it according to our desired decibel
is just as significant, in the name of patriotic duty.
Yes,
Kith, the controversial NBN-ZTE deal is still very much in
the news. In fact, every passing day, the scam is getting
hotter and hotter with new personalities dragged into the
stinking mess every step of the way.
And
Filipinos from all stripes, sizes and color are all the more
entertained at every turn. For sure, its entertainment value
is just as enjoyable while it lasts.
With
all the lies and half-truths in abundance from both players
of the political spectrum, we are at a quandary who is on
the wrong or right side of the equation.
Whatever,
the torrid exchange of what constitute lies and what makes
up the truth is still to be tested in the marketplace of public
opinion.
Be
that as it may, we might as well zero in on the issue why
Pres. GMA is digging in her heels all the more in firm footing.
To our mind, it's because she believes she still enjoys the
solid support of so-called institutions in our republican
state.
Whatever
you say of GMA in the annals of politicians of note, she is
still tops in terms of cunning, callousness, brutality and
ruthlessness.
And
she uses all these negative tricks in her book to stay in
power.
But,
remember sometimes, the runner stumbles.
In
her effort not to make a misstep or miscalculation, she was
so careful in her decisions. But as Abraham Lincoln, one great
American president famous for his classic one-liner, "you
can fool the people some of the time, but not all the people,
all the time", our lady president must have forgotten
this Linconian reminder. That she committed the biggest blunder
of her entire political career made her vulnerable throughout
her public service record while she is still in office or
out of it.
To
our mind, the greatest mistake GMA had ever committed was
the imprimatur she gave to imprison Erap. Don't give us the
rubbish that Erap was incarcerated by force of the so-called
rule of law.
It
was just that at that time then, it was fashionable to catch
one big fish like Erap in order to deliver the message that
her administration knew no sacred cow in prosecuting grafters
in government.
But
what of it if no big fish was netted by anti-graft busters?
Did
it change a bit our culture of corruption? Not at all, if
you ask this Bglante. In fact, it escalated into more daring
and brazen ones.
The
blunder that GMA committed will haunt her one day. It was
a dangerous precedent that she imprisoned a former president
and what the hell are we to expect if the time of reckoning
come her way. All told, if GMA is digging in despite calls
for her resignation, the reality stares her point blank that
she is no exception if she is tried herself for corruption
when she is toppled from her presidential perch.
