| WHILE
the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) continue to announce the automation of the
2010 elections, with its acquisition of billions worth of electronic machines
intended for the purpose, it seems that a great bulk of the Filipino electorate
still doubt that elections could ever be held next year.
The people are largely wary of Speaker Prospero Nograles et. al., who speak from
two corners of their mouths. One corner says that there will be an election in
2010, another in silence says that there could be none if the so-called Constituent
Assembly resolution could be railroaded during the State of the Nation Address
of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in July of this year, with the Senate and the
Lower House in attendance.
With the allegations of irregularities and fraud in almost every transaction in
government, and the tentacles of corruption reaching up to the highest echelons
of the Arroyo's administration, it is no wonder that the government's economy
is in tatters despite the perorations of the country's economic managers. Independent
international economic analysts, on the other hand, including those from the IMF
and the World Bank, consider the Philippines as one world class corrupt nation.
To our mind, the need for change is becoming imperative day by day. We have to
change, because if we don't, the events and things that are happening in our country
will eventually destroy all of us. Changing the politicians who rule our country
today, is of utmost priority because most of them operate on the basis of politics
without principle, and allowing them to continue governing our nation will ultimately
contaminate all of the people.
Such an eventuality, heaven forbid, will surely devastate our country, and can
certainly led to its destruction. *******
