"We
have to believe first", Lim on hope, optimism "We
need to believe if we intend to experience the better days that we have been praying
for," declared Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim. Speaking
to reporters yesterday, the mayor said that there is a need for people to begin
with the right mindset even as they wish each other the best of 2010. He
noted that while people exchange best wishes for the new year, many also express
optimism that the situation will improve. "It
is sad that many people do not actually believe that there is still hope in this
country at this time," he noted. Lim
said that it requires a correct mind set to get things done and being pessimistic
is not the way to do it. | | | He
pointed out that negative response to best wishes is contradicting the positive
hopes that people receive. "When
you resist blessings, naturally you will not be able to receive it," the
mayor noted. Lim
said that the best attitude should be to greet each other with best wishes and
to actually believe that they will come true. "The
problem with unbelief is that it will discourage you from going in the direction
of your dreams," he warned. |
The
mayor said that parents should know better because they too would not grant the
desires of their children who are not interested to receive it. "Kita
bitawng mga ginikanan mangluod man ta ug duna tay ihatag unya di malipay o kaha
di dawaton sa atong anak (We parents sulk whenever we give something to our children
and they are not happy or refuse to receive it)," he pointed out. Lim
said hope and faith should begin with each individual if they want things to improve.
"There
are many who love to bash the government and they have a point because there are
many officials who are not living up to expectations," he noted. The
mayor, however, stressed that negative factors are no match to determined people.
"The
worst officials and government employees cannot prevent positive change and progress
when people stop at nothing to attain them," he pointed out. Lim
said that the best performing nations today had encountered worst crisis than
the Philippines in the past. "They
are where they are now because the citizens of these countries persevered even
in the worst possible conditions," he pointed out.. Lim
challenged the people to press on toward the goal and not be intimidated by doomsayers
and negative people. "Do
not be swayed by those who want us to stay poor and powerless because they are
the ones who benefit from it," he added. The
mayor said that while he has met a lot of people who have shown a new attitude,
there are still many who are either passive, discouraged and bitter. "We
have to win the battle inside of us first before we start fighting the war outside
of us," he concluded. |
