Catigbian
turns 57 this June 17 and a celebration called Katigbawan Festival 2006 commemorates
its founding. Katigbawan Festival a tourism showcase brain-child of the Municipal
Tourism Council aims to promote commerce, trade and local industry here. The first
Festival last year was a stunning success, with the legislative Body strongly
supporting its institutionalization September 27, 2005 . Katigbawan
is a feast for human and spiritual satisfaction from the visayan word, katagbawan
and a combination of the works Katigbi, a kind of grass where Catigbian
got its name, Tigbaw, visayan word of cave, and kabawan,
that makes Catigbian different from other towns in Bohol , being the home of the
largest livestock auction market in the region. For this year's celebration, various
activities that promote agri-industrial products, cultural revival, local talents
and beauties and livestock awareness are lined-up from June 14 until June 17.
A thanksgiving
mass opens the festival followed by a parade and the opening of the Agri-fair.
In the afternoon of June 14, a comparza contest, talent competition of the candidates
for Ms. Katigbawan Festival 2006 and singing contest will take place. Blood-letting
in cooperation with Gallares Blood Center , Motocross and Disco Party are the
highlights on June 15. Livestock Day is on June 16 wherein carabao racing, hog
catching and karambola will be conducted. The Office of the Municipal Agriculture
and Provincial Veterinary administer free livestock vaccination and consultation.
The Search for
Miss Katigbawan Festival 2006 with 14 lovely candidates vying for the title takes
the center stage on the night of June 16. On the last day of the festival the
newly completed PNP Office, Day care and health centers in Haguilanan and Rizal
and the municipal hall extension office will be blessed and turned-over to the
local government unit by the funding agencies in the morning of June 17. Street
Dancing, Awarding of Festival and TOBOY Winners and Display of Fireworks culminate
the 2006 Katigbawan Festival. |
